Leaf mould, also known as humus soil, is a type of nutrient-rich soil formed from the decomposition and fermentation of plant branches and leaves by microorganisms in the soil. It is also a common potting medium for flowers and trees. Leaf mould is widely distributed naturally, easy to collect, and simple to compost. In areas where conditions permit, leaf mould that has weathered for many years can be dug directly from mountain forests. It can also be made at home using local materials.

Household flowers such as spider plants, pothos, and snake plants are all suitable for growing in leaf mould.

Uses

When using leaf mould, you can mix it with other types of soil such as garden soil, clay, and sand, as well as an appropriate amount of chemical fertilizer, in certain proportions according to the different types of potted flowers and the requirements for root growth. This mixture can then be used as potting soil for planting flowers. For acid-loving Southern flowers like orchids and azaleas, leaf mould can be used directly for cultivation, which can lead to deep roots, lush foliage, strong branches, abundant fruits, vibrant flowers, and larger fruits. Growth can be nearly twice as fast, and there will be fewer pests and diseases. When used for sowing and cultivating flower seedlings, it can improve germination rates and accelerate the growth and development of seedlings, making it an ideal cultivation medium for floriculture.
